On-Ice Helpers

An on-ice helper plays a supportive role during team practices by assisting with drills and helping the Head and Assistant Coaches as needed. Their primary focus is to support players by explaining drills and offering guidance to ensure everyone understands what to do. While they do not actively participate in the practice as a player, they are present to encourage and motivate, maintaining a positive attitude throughout.

Here are the requirements needed prior to being involved on the ice as an On-Ice Helper:

Must be a current registered member of BC Hockey / Hockey Canada
Any helper, 16 years and older must take Respect in Sport certificates
Completed a valid Criminal Record Check
CSA certified helmet (with fastened chin strap) and hockey gloves
Applicant must be approved by the Association (MRFMHA)

On-ice helpers report directly to the team’s Head Coach. Therefore it is important to contact the Head Coach prior to participating with any on-ice activities.

Course Reimbursement

Course related costs are eligible for reimbursement. All expense claims must be submitted by the end of the hockey season in which the purchase was made. You can use either of the following methods:

Send an email with your cost and receipt(s) to treasurer@barracudashockey.ca and you will receive an e-transfer
Complete a reimbursement form and drop it off with a copy of the receipts at our office in Planet Ice Maple Ridge and you will receive a cheque

Application Procedure

Step 1 - Spordle / Hockey Canada Registration Number

Before you can submit an application you will need to create a Spordle account and get a Hockey Canada Registration number (HCR).

To setup a Spordle account please following this setup guide:

If you already have a HCR number you can add it to your Spordle profile by doing the following:

Navigate to your Spordle Dashboard
On the left menu click on "Members"
Click the "+" button to link a member
Enter first name, last name, DOB and relationship (Myself)
Click "Link Profile"
If a profile is found it should find it for you and add it to your profile as a linked member

If you do not have a HCR number or are unsure please email our registrar with your full name and date of birth and they can search for your account and request a HCR number for you.

If you have a HCR number but it's not verifying properly during the coach registration process, please contact our registrar via email with your name and HCR number as we may need to request permissions to use that HCR number within our association.

Step 2 - Submit Application Form

We recommend to read through this page entirely before completing our Coaching Application form.

In the "Sport Info" section, for the "Hockey Canada Registration Number" field please enter your Hockey Canada Registration (HCR) number. Do not submit your child's HCR number. If you are unsure of your HCR number please see Step 1 - Spordle / Hockey Canada Registration Number above.

In the "Additional Participant Info" section, for the "Hockey Canada Division" please select "NA".

In the "Additional Parent Info" section, for the "Coaching Position" field select "On-Ice Helper" and indicate your certifications on the form to the best of your ability. If you are unsure on a certification select "No". Our Risk Manager will work to verify the certifications and follow up via email as needed.

If you would like to be an on-ice helper for multiple teams, please submit a separate application for each division in which your child is participating.

If you experience verification issues with your HCR number when submitting the form, please email our registrar with the following information:

Full name
Date of birth
HCR number
Description of the error message

Step 3 - Criminal Record Check

All team volunteers who interact with our players must submit to a criminal record check. Please use the link/access code below to electronically submit a criminal record check. Our association does require this to be completed through this process so that it automatically updates into the Spordle application. There is no cost to you for this criminal record check.
