Safety Person
The Team Safety Person is an important member of every minor hockey team. Their primary responsibility is to help create a safe hockey environment by focusing on injury prevention, risk management, emergency preparedness and player well-being.
The Safety Person works closely with the Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager, players and parents/guardians to help ensure that safety remains a priority at practices, games, tournaments and team activities.
You do not need to be a medical professional to be a Safety Person. Hockey Canada provides specific training to help volunteers recognize injuries, respond appropriately to emergencies and promote safe participation. Hockey Canada recommends that Safety Persons also have current First Aid and CPR training.
Here are the requirements to be a Safety Person:
- Must be a current registered member of BC Hockey / Hockey Canada
- Valid CRC
- Shift Forward Program Certificate
- Hockey Canada Safety Person Certificate
- CATT Certificate
